GotGames.com.au is happy to announce the return of the GotGames Counter-Strike:Source one day competition.

The competition will be a 32 team open competition, held on Sunday, the 13th of December. Registrations will be opening 30 November at 8:00pm AEDT. Registrations will close on the 12th of December, although registrations will most likely be full before that date.

There is no entry free for this competition, thus no prize money. The sole purpose of the one day competition is to give teams an opportunity to prove themselves worthy of a GGCEVO invite and give other teams a chance to become familiar with the CEVO system ALL matches will make use of the CEVO CMN anti-cheat system.

The first 32 teams with 5 ready players (on the ready roster with SteamID set in CEVO settings) will get a spot. There will be 8 groups of 4 teams; the top two teams of each group will consequently progress into single elimination finals.

GGCEVO-A Season 5 Finals

Over 90 teams started the CEVO Amateur Season with only 24 finals spots available.

The competition was cut throat as teams desperately wanted to see themselves in October finals action. We have now reached that time of the year and here are the teams who qualified from finals from their groups.

In the Grand Final the teams will knife for the decision of map or side. The winner of the knife will choose between the map or the side while the loser will pick the remaining option. All of the 6 maps from the seasons rotation will be available to play in the Grand Final - de_dust2, de_inferno, de_nuke, de_train, de_tuscan and de_season.

For the second map the team who picked side will then choose the map thus the other team picks the side. If it does go to a 3rd map there will be another knife round to decide map and/or side selection.

#pan has topped Group G (along with ominous coming in 2nd).

Good luck to all teams (but mostly ours!) - Great effort guys!

Batman: Arkham Asylum

You've heard of Batman no doubt, but if you don't read comics, it's conceivable that you might be unfamiliar with Arkham Asylum. The iconic psychiatric hospital is essentially Gotham City's Alcatraz, and it has housed just about every villain Batman has ever tangled with at one time or another. Now, thanks to Eidos and developer Rocksteady, Arkham is also the setting for a great third-person action game in which the lunatics take over the asylum and only you can stop them.

As Batman, you not only get to go toe-to-toe with thugs in fast-paced punch-ups, but you also employ satisfying stealth tactics, play with great gadgets, solve some remarkable riddles, and do a decent amount of detective work. In short, you get to do all of the things that you want to when you don a Batman costume in a game, provided you weren't hoping to get behind the wheel of the batmobile.

Because just about everything else needs to be unlocked, the first time you boot up Batman: Arkham Asylum, your first port of call will inevitably be the Story mode. Here, you learn that Batman has captured Joker, and as the lengthy intro sequence plays out, you see him being returned to the asylum under Batman's watchful eye.

Joker doesn't seem at all perturbed by his predicament, and it quickly becomes apparent that he has deliberately allowed himself to be captured as part of a grand plan that involves taking control of Arkham Island and throwing a party there with Batman as the guest of honor. Clearly it's a trap, but as Batman (and as someone who demands more than two minutes of gameplay before the credits roll), you just can't walk away from it.

Left 4 Dead who now? No one was expecting Valve’s next game to be a sequel to 2008’s awesome co-op zombie shooter, Left 4 Dead. To answer your immediate question: Yes, this is a completely new game, with new characters, in a new location, with new zombies, new weapons, new twists, and an improved Director, in five completely new campaigns set in the Southern United States. This isn’t more maps for the previous game, it’s a brand new game, and it’s due this November. We snuck into Valve HQ ahead of Monday’s announcement and played a full campaign, and at first glance much appears to have evolved.

It’s still Left 4 Dead: Valve have more sense than to change anything that made the first game so splendid. Rather the focus on L4D2 appears to have been the desire by everyone involved in the first game to make something bigger and better. Coming off the back of the project, we were told by various Valve developers, people we bursting with ideas of where to take the game next. So they went right there.

Left 4 Dead 2 takes place in the South of the USA, beginning in Savannah, eventually reaching New Orleans. There’s four new characters to play, each with back-stories to be hinted at in their conversations. Coach is a high school football coach from the Savannah area, used to leading the kids, comfortable in his life, and perhaps not enamoured by the arrival of a zombie attack. There’s Rochelle, from Cleveland originally, working for a cable news network. She’s producing a segment on this strange story occurring in Savannah, and gets caught up in the events. Ellis is a Southern boy mechanic, an enthusiastic but smart guy with a “Southern flair”. Finally there’s Nick, a gambler and a conman, unsure of his company and cynical about the events.

Street Fighter IV

Street Fighter IV is a gorgeous and entertaining brawler that anyone can play. Instead of rebooting the franchise, Capcom tweaked the familiar 2-D Street Fighter II formula and fused it with beautiful 3-D graphics, making it instantly likeable to older fans who want the controls and action they've loved and new gamers in search of visual nirvana. Although it features overused modes that appear in other fighters, Arcade and Versus will have you throwing fireballs until you wear out the controller.

What's here is a wonderful mix of old and new. Street Fighter IV's 25-person roster includes series mainstays Ryu, Chun-Li, Ken and Blanka, as well as newcomers El Fuerte, Crimson Viper and the overweight Rufus. No matter whom you choose, the combat is immediately accessible and addictive.

Veterans will perform trademark moves with ease, while gamers that abandoned Street Fighter years ago will find that Street Fighter IV fits like a comfy pair of slippers; if you dominated fools as Ryu in the '90s, he'll feel instantly familiar. Meanwhile, newcomers can execute devastating attacks, either by mashing buttons or learning the nuances of combat in the Training mode.

Project Origin

Project Origin is both a sequel and a fresh beginning for the F.E.A.R. series. While it will continue the story of its predecessor, it promises to be more action-oriented thanks to an increase in outdoor environments.

Certainly, the addition of mech-based combat is a new direction for the series, even if it isn't for developer Monolith, which has produced large-scale games in the past. We got a chance to look at an updated build of Project Origin today when Warner Bros. popped into the office, and the publisher was kind enough to tell us about where it's hoping to take the game when it's released in the first quarter of 2009

Playing the game on the Xbox 360, we got to see how Project Origin's open outdoor environments are set to change the dynamic of the combat. Many of you will remember that the original F.E.A.R. had its fair share of scary moments, and while they still occur in Project Origin, the urban environments have been incorporated to allow for a distinct change of action. The gunplay is frantic and violent, while the enemy AI looks like it has learnt even more about using flanking techniques, as well as taking cover.

Enemies open car doors to use as cover, but thankfully you can use a sniper rifle to shoot off extremities that peek out around the edges. If you shoot a soldier in the leg, then he'll hobble over to stronger cover, or you can be safe and use a rocket launcher to blow the entire car up.

The open-world crime epic returns to the PlayStation 3. Grand Theft Auto IV gives players the ability to do nearly anything in a huge virtual city: everything from exploring seedy neighborhoods to visiting strip clubs to shooting Mafia goons.

You play as Niko, an immigrant with a dark secret. Grand Theft Auto IV has been one of the best-reviewed games of the decade, garnering wild critical acclaim for its dazzling graphics, fluid controls, and mature storyline. A new online mode extends the possibilities for years to come with over a dozen game play styles, from racing to deathmatch.

Grand Theft Auto IV is a surprisingly difficult game to review. It's not like previous GTAs, or most other sequels, where there are new stand-out features that you can easily discuss and rate. GTA IV has made a firm decision to focus on the gameplay experience itself rather than a list of new weapons, vehicles and features.

You'll probably be surprised to hear GTA IV has noticeably fewer weapons and vehicles on offer than GTA: San Andreas did. If you wouldn't expect to find it in New York City, then you're not likely to find it in Liberty City. Yes, this means San Andreas' more unusual vehicles like fighter jets, hovercraft, go-karts and jetpacks are all absent. Don't expect to be wielding chainguns, flamethrowers or chainsaws either.

Project Reality is a free to download game modification for the Battlefield 2 (BF2) retail pc game. The Reality Mod installs alongside the existing game installation allowing both the original and Project Reality to be played separately without causing conflicts.

The Mod developers' aims are to rework the original game engine developed by Digital Illusions of Sweden (Dice) within legal and feasible constraints to create a realistic combat environment for gamers. This includes adjusting the games various elements including physics, visual effects and game play. Along with changes to how the game handles, the PR team intends to include additional factions, such as the British military and add to or alter existing factions so that they resemble real life combat elements found within their contemporary environments.

DOWNLOAD HERE: http://www.realitymod.com/files.html

The Mods name, 'Project Reality', is self descriptive in its aim to create a realistic combat environment on the home computer. The Project Reality team comprises a group of dedicated individuals, several of whom have backgrounds in armed services, whose sole task is to provide researched material, including statistical information, to the developers who are in turn tasked with coding and creating the mod itself. If you are looking for a fact based first person shooter from the perspective of a combat soldier, we feel Project Reality will provide for your gaming needs.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare introduces a variety of game play styles into the single player campaign completely new to the Call of Duty series.

The game moves away from the standard three country-specific campaign style, and allows the plot to play through more like a film style plot with interlaced story lines from the perspective of the player as Paul Jackson, a member of the United States Marine Corps 1st Force Recon and Soap MacTavish, a member of the British 22nd SAS Regiment. There is also a variety of cameo-style missions where you play as various other soldiers such as an AC-130 Spectre Gunship gunner, or as one part of a two-man sniper team behind enemy lines in a flashback style mission.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare focuses on the variation of modern warfare as an infantry soldier by allowing the player to control soldiers in a vast number of different scenarios, straying away from the constant "at eleven" action of previous Call of Duty titles and allowing for both heavy intensity fire fights and slower paced drama styled intensity. The series' move to modern warfare has also introduced a variety of new modern weapons and technology to be introduced to the Call of Duty franchise. Such showcased weapons and attachments include M203 grenade launchers, and the AN/PEQ-2 Target Pointer for use in conjunction with night vision goggles, silenced MP5SD submachine guns, and the FGM-148 Javelin portable anti-tank guided missile among many others.

Team Fortress® 2 (TF2) is the sequel to the game that put class-based, multiplayer team warfare on the map.

This year’s most anticipated online action game, TF2 delivers new gametypes, a signature art style powered by Valve’s next generation animation technology, persistent player statistics, and more.

Unlike other “class-based” games that offer a variety of combat classes only, Team Fortress 2 packs a wild variety of classes which provide a broad range of tactical abilities and personalities, and lend themselves to a variety of player skills.
